Fixing Errors In Common Problems Green Reader: Golf Slope

Read the break on any putt. Green Reader turns your phone's motion sensor into a slope meter for the putting green — lay it flat near your line and instantly see how the surface tilts, which way the ball will break, and where to aim.

WHAT YOU GET

• Slope reading — the grade of the green shown as a percent and in degrees, with an arrow pointing downhill, the way the ball wants to roll.
• Break & aim point — the app splits the slope into the part along your line and the part across it, then turns the cross-slope into a clear "aim this many inches left or right of the hole" read.
• Uphill / downhill pace — know when a putt plays uphill and needs a firmer stroke, or downhill and needs an easy touch.
• Distance aware — longer putts break more, so feed in the distance for a sharper read.
• Green speed (Stimp) — faster greens break more; set the Stimp and the aim adjusts. Leave it at 10 for an average green.
• Simple putt line — point the top of your phone at the hole and nudge the on-screen line. No compass needed.

HOW TO USE IT

Walk your line, rest the phone flat on the green, and read the slope. Aim to the high side — the ball always breaks toward the low side. More cross-slope or a longer putt means more break.

FOR GOLFERS

Weekend players learning to read greens, practice-green sessions, and anyone who wants to understand why their putts keep sliding past the hole.

A NOTE ON ACCURACY

This is a practice aid. The slope comes from your phone's accelerometer and is approximate, and the break is a modeled estimate, not a measurement. Grain, moisture, footprints and multiple slopes between ball and hole all matter. Read the whole line and trust your own eyes.
